Wow. What more can I say? [The Frugal Book Promoter is] interesting, informative, readable and more. Easy to follow, quotes and technique mixed in together wonderfully. This is an A-one job. Watch out world! I’m going to have to put it under my pillow ~ Leora G. Krygier, author of First the Raven and When She Sleeps

"I’m a writer who would love to have someone else take over the editing and proofreading stages of my manuscripts because I hate editing, proofreading, and rewriting. Ms. Howard-Johnson’s techniques and her encouragement from page to page of THE FRUGAL BOOK EDITOR lifts my spirits to the level where I can approach these hated tasks in a better attitude and get the job done. I advise all writers to obtain a copy of THE FRUGAL BOOK EDITOR and keep it handy as your write."  ~Lucille P. Robinson, reviewer for Alternative Read

Tip

Joining an organization only pays to the extent that you work it. Hiring a professional only works to the extent that you work as a partner with her or him. Snagging a TV appearance only works to the extent that you know what to do once you're in front of that red camera light. In other words, learn the ropes (Suggested reading, of course, is The Frugal Book Promoter). Put out the effort. Give back as much as you take. And watch your promotion efforts grow.

Because agents and agents' needs vary so widely, to list them individually seems futile. Author-Friendly Radio and TV

These are all shows that I have been on and/or recommend.

Fran Halpern hosts the lively, often funny, Beyond Words, a show for literary toilers and word lovers which airs Saturday at 2 P.M on KCLU in Santa Barbara, CA. on KCLU 88.3 & 102.3, an NPR affiliate 88.3 Call during and before the broadcast at 805-493-9200.

Connie Martinson Talks Books is a syndicated TV interview show filmed in LA. Here is a host who actually reads the books of the authors she interview. (My This Is the Place and Harkening were tagged and labeled and book marked like crazy).

Connie Gotsch's Write On covers writers who are from the four corners area or write about it. I qualify because I'm from Utah and my novel,  This Is the Place, is set in Utah. Utah, after all, is one of the four-corners states. She has also featured some of my poetry from Tracings, which is also influenced by that unique place and culture. See this site for more on those books.

The Joe Mazza Show is a late night syndicated show where you can reach insomniacs in small towns and larger ones. Joe likes lots of subjects but you'll get to him if you'll talk 50s, classic cars or his dog, Sebastian. Tell him I sent you.

The Jane Prince-Jones Show is an early morning drive show. Jane loves the theater but she'll talk about most anything on her KFYO radio show. E-mail.

If you are good at marketing your books, or if you need help, contact Janet Elaine Smith to get "booked" on her weekly radio program "Marketing for Fun and Profit." Over 80,000 listeners.

Nightengale Press publisher and author, Valerie Connelly, hosts the popular internet radio program, CALLING ALL AUTHORS on Tuesdays at 4PM Central Time. Publishing and publicity experts as well as authors of all genres and experience.  Join Valerie for lively conversations about their books, their businesses and their hopes and fears as they promote their work. Valerie has had me on twice and is a consummate interviewer. Listen to the archives. A must-listen and  great place to give informative interviews for authors seeking to inform, promote and entertain.

The Reverend Cherise Thorne is host of an inspirational program called Knowing Spirit. Think of an angle, even if your book isn't specifically inspirational. She is very accessible. Phone: 815-483-1141.  Her web address and podcast is at www.knowingspirit.org/Site/Podcast/Podcast.html.

Here is a link where you'll find a list of other shows: http://betsie.tripod.com/literary/id82.html. Do be careful though. Some of them are interview shows that authors must pay for. You probably already know that, in the Frugal Book Promoter I advise against doing that, generally speaking. There are, of course exceptions to every rule.

Promotion Tip:

In The Frugal Book Promoter I advise authors to beware of paying for services that traditionally have have been offered at no cost to authors. There are times when you will want to make exceptions, but in general you will not need to pay to be on the radio, to get your book reviewed, to be the host of a radio or TV program or to get an agent to read your manuscript.

Find at least one tip on writing, promotion or tech on every page of this Web site.

Promotion Tip

Links can be a great way to build Web site traffic. Trouble is there is a tendency to withhold a favor until someone has reciprocated. Though I use the term reciprocal links below, they are not truly reciprocal because I do not demand a return link. If I think a link will be useful to you, my Web site visitor, I will post it whether or not it is reciprocated.  Nor do I expect links to be tit for tat. Example, someone may mention my book or my site in their newsletter rather than on their Web site and that makes me just as happy.  I suggest you do the same. It gives your link page more credibility and it underscores what pubic relations is supposed to be about -- ethics and a willingness to help one another out when possible.

Find at least one tip on writing, promotion or tech on every page of this Web site.
